The 18th CCP vs. American Presidential Election
On September 29, CCTV announced that the 18th CCP Congress will be held on November 8, 2012. It is unusual for the CCP to announce the party congress late in September. Some Japanese media suggests that
decision of the opening the 18th CCP due to the Bo Xilai case.
However, this does not appear to be the case. November 6, 2012 is the Beijing
presidential election. When the US US
elects a new president on November 6, it is November 7 already in time. Meaning,
almost 24 hours after the Americans will choose the President; the Chinese will
have its 18th CCP meeting, choosing their leaders. Chinese want to
make sure who was elected to be president. If Obama was elected, Obama’s policy
toward China might not change much. However, if Mitt Romney wins the
presidential race, Beijing might have to face a new direction from the White
House. As a result, the American presidential race might directly or indirectly
affect the Sino-Japanese territorial disputes in Beijing East
