China vs. USA: Burma Case-II
After the government in Burma suspended the construction of the 3,200-megawatt Myitsone Dam by the Chinese, Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, made a historical trip to Burma, the first in 50 years. The military leader Thein Sein changed his military clothes to greet Secretary Clinton, who later also met Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Aung Sun Suu Kyi. While Clinton was trying to improve the U.S.’s relationship with Burma, Thein Sein sent his military delegation to Beijing to meet Xi Jinping, the next leader of China.
After growing up and studying in China and Japan, Dr. Suganuma went to the U.S. for graduate studies, earning master’s degrees at both St. John's University (in Chinese studies) and Syracuse University (in international relations) as well as a Ph.D. (in geography) from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
