Nobel Prize vs. Confucius Prize/“Double Standard” –III
On 10 December 2010, Norwegian Committee honored Liu Xiaobo with the prestigious peace prize in
, but an empty chair was waiting there. Why did the Nobel committee believe that Liu provided “peace” for the international community other that criticizing the Chinese government by coauthoring Charter 08, a petition urging political reform. Recently, the prestigious peace prize has been manipulated into a “political tool.” Last year, Obama had been in the White House for only two weeks when the Nobel committee gave him the prestigious peace prize. What did Obama do for peace? “ Oslo ?” “ Iraq ?” “Getting rid of nuclear weapons?” Nothing!! Similarly, What has Liu done for “peace” in the world or for Chinese people? Guantanama Bay knows its political system needs reform. But the West and Western media wish to see “chaos” and “disorder” in Chinese affairs. The Chinese government rightly created its Confucius prize which was first awarded to Lien Chan (New York Times).
