U.S. Apologizes/Learning History-XIII
"We are outraged that such reprehensible research could have occurred under the guise of public health," indicated Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen on 24 September 2010. President Obama also called Guatemala’s president Alvaro Colom to apologize. About 60 years ago, American scientists deliberately infected prisoners and patients in a mental hospital in Guatemala with syphilis (Japan Times 3 October 2010). The N1H-funded experiment, which ran from 1946 to 1948, was uncovered by a Wellesley College medical historian. When will the Japanese government apology to the Chinese for Unit 731 which deliberately infected Chinese people in northeast China?
