The Third United Front CCP-KMT-I
The reconciliation across the Taiwan Strait is continuing. In May, Hu Jintao, the Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party had historic meeting with the Wu Poh-hsiung, Chairman of the Chinese Nationalist Party, Taiwan’s ruling party. Even though Wu had met Hu many times prior this meeting, this meeting is significant. The Hu-Wu meeting was the first encounter between the heads of the two ruling parties in over half a century. This historical event shows hope for the Third United Front CCP-KMT (i.e., two previous United Front CCP-KMT were in 1924 and in 1936) to come.
After growing up and studying in China and Japan, Dr. Suganuma went to the U.S. for graduate studies, earning master’s degrees at both St. John's University (in Chinese studies) and Syracuse University (in international relations) as well as a Ph.D. (in geography) from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
