These days, Tamogami Toshio is busy appearing on TV shows, publishing books, and holding sponsored lectures. Tamogami also had an interview with the Japan Times. Since he was fired on 31 October 2008, Tamogami appears to view his mission to convince people that his theory of WWII is right. “I remember once when an SDF serviceman was involved in a murder, and even he wasn’t fired overnight. My case ironically proved that the Defense Ministry can act fast if it wants to,” Tamogami stated (Japan Times 28 January 2009). According to Tomogami history lessons in Japanese schools are overly “submissive” and based on “self-denial,” and thus pose an obstacle to foster a sense of patriotism. Can Tomogami revise history of WWII? Will the Tokyo trial be re-written?
