Great Wall is Great!
In 2009, a Chinese government study was released reporting the total length of the Great Wall according to the Chinese media. A joint project between the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping utilized GPS devices to map parts of war built during Ming dynasty – stretching from Mt. Hu in northern Liaoning province to Jiayu Pass in the western Gansu province. The Great Wall is 8851.8 km long, about 2,500 km longer than the original survey in the 1950s. The joint project will continue for another year in order to map sections of the wall built during the Qin and Han Dynasties.
