F-22 Cancellation/The Next Generation Fighter Jet-I
Defense Secretary Robert Gates recommended a broad overhaul of military spending slashed on 6 April 2009. These cuts include the ending production of a F22 fighter and a $13 billion-presidential helicopter. At $140 million-apiece, the F22 fighter is a priority for the Japanese purchase lists because F22 fight can evade radar detection and other capabilities (Japan Times). But the US has refused to sell it to Japan. The cancellation might dash Tokyo’s hopes of acquiring the Lockheed Martin Corporation built jet as a next-generation fighter.
